Stainless Steel Crowns
Stainless Steel Crowns
Sometimes a tooth needs a stainless steel crown to keep it functioning well and looking great, too. The crown covers the top part of the tooth and is placed above the gum line.
Dental crowns are used for many other purposes too. They can be made of several different types of materials. One frequently used kind of dental crown is the stainless steel crown.
Children tend to get crowns placed when they have a tooth that is damaged or has become so filled with decay that fillings won’t help the situation. Stainless steel crowns are also a good choice for children who don’t react well to anesthesia or who have a hard time with proper dental care.
Prefabricated steel crowns are used on permanent teeth temporarily. Stainless steel crowns protect teeth or fillings until a more permanent crown is made. They are also used on children with problems with their primary teeth. These crowns protect a decaying primary tooth until it falls out and permanent teeth take their place. When the primary tooth falls out, the stainless steel crown comes out with it.
