Preventive Care
What is Pediatric Preventive Care?
Preventative care is crucial for the health of your child’s teeth and gums. If your child constantly forgoes their dental appointments, cavities can go undetected and excess buildup can cause issues with gingivitis and bad breath. Preventative care involves professional dental cleanings and exams done in-office as well as informative educational tools to help your child take better care of their teeth at home. Children should start seeing the dentist when their first baby teeth start to come in and every six months thereafter.
Why does your child need Preventive Care?
Preventative care checks for signs of cavity as well as issues involving tooth development. We will give important advice on how to care for your child’s teeth so that they are less likely to develop cavities. Professional cleanings remove buildup and stains from your child’s teeth, providing them with a cleaner and fresher-smelling mouth. We can discuss other preventative care options such as fluoride treatments and sealants.
What makes your child a good candidate for Preventive Care?
Every child is a good candidate for preventative care. As soon as you notice your child’s first teeth beginning to come up through the gums, it’s time to schedule an appointment. This allows us to monitor the growth and development of their teeth from infancy all the way into their teen years. However, it is never too late to start bringing your child to the dentist if they are a toddler and have never been to see a dentist. We offer them care in a warm, welcoming and kid-friendly environment that they’ll actually enjoy.
What happens during a typical Preventive Care appointment?
Your child will be seated in one of our dental chairs and be given a dental cleaning. Every member of our staff is trained to work with children of all ages and varying needs. Once the cleaning is done, Dr. Jennifer Criss will come in and do an exam. The exam is done to look for signs of cavities as well as tooth development and growth. We will provide your child with a quick, easy fluoride treatment to strengthen their teeth and prevent decay. After the cleaning and exam, we will discuss any work needing to be done as well as ask questions regarding their at-home dental care routine. It is our mission to help all children have a beautiful, clean smile that they can feel proud to show off. We’re here to answer any questions regarding the health of your child’s smile.
